love?

Love - I'm  not quite sure what I believe about it. I don't know if I believe in soulmates or true love, or whether you just end up finding someone who you happen to love strongly.
Now, I was wondering, what is love? I mean, what defines it? The dictionary says:
 1. A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3. Sexual passion or desire.
4. A person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.
5. (used in direct address as a term of endearment, affection, or the like): Would you like to see a movie, love?
But then again, what does the dictionary know? It's not a person, it doesn't have feelings.
Love is difficult to describe, I guess. I mean, sure, you can say that love is the strong feeling you have towards someone you care about, but I don't think it really describes it.
And also, at what age can you feel love? I mean really feel it; not just for your family, but for that one person. People always say 'oh, you're too young to know what love means' and I just think, how do you know what I feel? What if I never feel anything this strong again?
And I think that might be what I'm scared of: loving someone but not realising it's love before it's too late and the opportunity has passed (the opportunity has already passed, I think). I don't want to be old and living with 27 cats, but I'm not going to settle for anyone. Would you?
You know when sometimes, you have a dream and it really moves you. You can't forget about it all day, you  know what I mean? Yeah, well, I had one of those last night. And, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but I've dreams similiar to it before. Anyone else have those? Well, I was so happy to see the person in my dream and I hugged them tighter than I've ever hugged anyone before. I've even chosen them over my favourite anime character in a dream before (yeah, it's that serious) and that's pretty much told me all I need to know.
It's not that I think I'm in love, it's just...I don't know what else it's called.
I think love is the one thing that really confuses me.

The fire inside us

I was in Science class today and I had finished my test paper, so my mind just started wandering as it does. And I got to thinking how fragile we actually are; humans, that is.
If you think about it, it's only a few bones that protect our heart and muscles that stop us from collapsing. There is a delicate balance in order for everything to be as it should. It wouldn't take much for us to become seriously injured and die.
You might be thinking, 'well this is a depressing blog', but I'm taking it in another direction.
Despite our underrated weaknesses, we don't die easily. People will always have this instinct to try and survive, no matter what the situation.
And that's what I love about the human race. Unlike animals, we have this spark in us that won't permit us to just give up and die. We have this fire inside us that keeps us alive.

live in the moment

I believe that you should enjoy your life and live in the moment (no, not YOLO..idiots). It's a pretty good belief, to be honest.
I always try to have fun in the present rather than fretting over stuff in the past or worrying about the future. I mean, of course I look in the future because of grades and college and stuff but I don't spend my time worrying over them. Your best years are meant to be your school years, right?

Never stop laughing.

Christmas treats

Ok, so it's nearly Christmas. You know what that means; ordering presents and waiting for them. I myself am not particularly a good waiter. But that's only because I want the presents I've got for people to arrive before Christmas Eve Eve so that I can wrap them and give them to the people. I don't really mind about when mine come, as long as they do, especially my clothes!
But, there's another thing that happens near Christmas...I make lots of Christmas treats for my family and friends (myself included of course)!
This week, I'm intending to make nutmeg and cinnamon cookies with colourful icing. I hope they turn out well and taste nice, and that the icing looks good!
Have fun guys and don't forget to do some cooking!

Otome Kei

I've decided that my fashion style is going to be Otome Kei. If you don't know what Otome Kei is, you're in luck, I'm going to tell you.
Otome Kei means young lady or young maiden. It's basically a toned down version of Lolita (google it). I've chosen this style because it is more mature than Lolita but still has the same style - it's mainly the skirts that I like. I'm going to wear long-sleeved tops with skirts and knee-high socks or tights. I really love high waisted skirts as they give you more shape but make you look thin as well (but not in the gross anorexic way).
I also adore wearing bows as accessories or clothes with bows on. Hats are also a must; I prefer the baggy knitted ones, sometimes with a pompom or whatever you call them on.
The main thing is colour, though. I usually wear clothes that match but with a pop of colour, whether it's the top, bottoms or shoes. I add a bit of my own style to an outfit by wearing high tops or baseball boots instead of otome kei shoes (although I will wear a pair of ballet pumps sometimes).
With my hair, I curl it in a Korean style. I'm hoping to dye my hair a honey brunette and then get some extensions so that the curls are really long. Then I clip one side back so that the top layer of curls don't look too messy.
So yeah, that's my style. If you're not sure what style you are/want to be, just look on the internet, there's something for everbody. Don't be afraid to invent your own style either.

Side note: my iPod charger doesn't work anymore so I'm really annoyed. But, I remembered that I had my docking station to charge it on. I got really scared for a moment because I thought I wouldn't have any music until I got a new charger, scary I know.

home alone

You know when you're alone in your house and your imagination is all 'this would be the perfect time for a burglar or some disastrous event that will shake the world. And here you are, on your own, with no help.' Yeah? Well, that's why I'm in my living room with a miniature broom practising my swings. Hopefully they'll be strong to smash an attacker's head...we can only hope.
And it doesn't help that my cat keeps looking outside the rroom like someone's there.

japanese sweets

Today, I am going to blog about...Japanese food! When I say that, I mean sweets and chocolates.
There are lots of Japanese sweets that are extremely delicious in their  way. My favourite thing about them (apart from their taste, obviously) is that the packaging is always so bright and colourful, it just looks so cute and really draws in the eye.

My all-time favourite Japanese snack is Pocky! And if you don't know what Pocky is, get out. No, seriously, leave. Oh, okay, I kid, I kid. (I don't. Leave.) Let me familiarise you with Pocky, over here in England it's called Mikado. Recognise it?
Well, it is the most addicting food ever and it's so tasty! My favourite flavour is strawberry!
Another sweet I absolutely love and treasure when I have it is Puccho. It's basically a packet of chewy sweets with loads of different flavours.I particularly like Soda flavour and Genki flavour (a Japanese energy drink).

Another amazing sweet is Shigekix Super Sour Gummies. They are quite sour as the name suggests but I really like sour food - lemons are great! I've only seen SSG come in two flavours, Grape and Soda, but that's only when I can find them.
Hope you all enjoy Japanese sweets as much as I do!

Cosplay

Yeah, yeah, I know I didn't blog yesterday; but I have a good reason...I swear! Well...watching asian dramas is a good reason for me, okay?!

But I digress. Today's blog is going to be about cosplay! I was trying to decide who I would cosplay as for next years's J-Con (it's in Derby, England and I think you should all go, it's really great!) and so, here is my blog.

Cosplay stands for costume play - basically, it's dressing up but not for kids: kids can cosplay, but that's not the point. The thing is, cosplay is more serious than dressing up. I'm not saying that everyone's bitchy about each other's costume, because they're not, they're actually really kind, but it's really fun when you have a great cosplay.
For example, me and my friends went to this year's J-Con as vocaloids and my Teto cosplay was, if I do say so myself, pretty good. My friends looked amazing as well. It was really fun.
What I'm trying to say is, go cosplaying! It's extremely fun and strangely addicting. You can cosplay as your favourite characters, or all go in a group from the same anime/manga/game, etc.
Next year, I think I'm going to go as Shina from Angel Beats! because I really want to wear her scarf. I was going to go as Saeko Busujima from H.O.T.D (undoubtedly one of my favourite animes; come on second series!) but I couldn't find a cosplay katana (pretty much the whole reason and wanted to go as her, plus the reason that she's totally kick-ass!) so I decided not to. Then I saw Angel Beats! - a great anime, yes I cried twice, but how could you not? - and was all 'oh hell yes, I'm going as her!
Wish me luck in finding an amazing cosplay and I wish you all good luck in your future cosplaying activities!

Side Note: asian dramas...watch them. Viki is a great website to watch them on. Well, I'm gonna watch some now.

Shout out to my beautiful, gorgeous Nina - always believe in what you are and don't let yourself tell you any different, you're beautiful.
Shout out to my hilarious, amazing Alice - keep doing what you do, especially if I influence you!

Moments I love

Yep, today is another list day. This time it's about what moments I love.

Moments I Love
  • I absolutely love it when you and a stranger are walking towards each other and you both try to go the same way so you're there for ages going the same way and you both stop to let the other one move and you're both just stood there looking at each other. I love this because you are forced to start a conversation with a stranger.
  • When you are buying something and you start talking to the person who's working at the checkout desk or whatever it's called. The other day, I was buying a book at Waterstones (This Book Is Full Of Spiders by David Wong, I highly reccommend it), and the guy who was working there turned the book over to the cover and proper jumped because there were pictures of spiders made of paper on it. He was saying 'I know it's just a picture and they're made of paper but still' He had to put it in a bag, bless him. It was great though 'cause I was talking to him for a while. I pretty much just like talking to friendly strangers.
  • I love it when you catch a stranger's eye and continue to make eye contact with them for ages, it's so fun for no reason.
  • When you do something so embarrassing, so weird or so awesome and then you see a stranger looking at you and you don't look away, just all 'Yeah, that's right. That just happened.'

That's all I can think of for now, hope you liked it.

Pet peeves

Okay, so today it's pretty much just a few lists of stuff. Hope you like it though.

Pet Peeves
  • I'd have to say that my number 1 top pet peeve was betrayal. It sounds really weird because I couldn't think of a way to put it. Basically, I hate when the people you hang around with run off with someone else or decide to start hanging out with someone else. I'm just like 'Oh yeah, gee, thanks.' And I hate it when people say that they'll do something for you then either don't do it at all or do it for someone else first.
  • My second pet peeve is alphabetising; no, I dont have OCD (or CDO as my friends like to call it), or at least I'm pretty sure I don't... It's not that everything has to have an order to it - well, yeah okay, that kinda contributes to it - but it's just practical. When people are looking for something I'm there just like 'you'd know where it was if it was alphabetised..I'd have found it for you by know if it was alphabetised..' and pretty much just annoying them :-)
  • Another pet peeve of mine is when people are looking for a song and they listen to the intro and then change it again. But it's not just one song, oh no. It's every. Fucking. Song. I mean, just let a song play or turn the music off the look for another song: it's not that hard people!
  • I absolutely hate it when people judge things before they've even seen it. I like anime, and it pisses me off when people automatically assume it's full of tentacle rape porn. No...just...just, no. And when people watch a trailer or listen to a tiny bit of a song and decide they don't like it. Come on, give it a chance!
  • One of my worst pet peeves is when people spell things wrong. Not normal words or anything like that but mainly names of people and anime and bands. For example (and I think fellow fans will agree with me here), it really annoys me when people spell the Kpop band name as Shinee or shinee. It's SHINee guys! And yes, it does make a difference. I don't mind if you didn't know and I will correct so that you know in future. But it's when people do it continuously despite people telling them...honestly, people these days.

So, if you do any of these pet peeves near me, you have been warned! Sort yourself out!

I was going to do a couple more lists of stuff but I'll do it tomorrow because it was bigger than I expected today.

Don't believe everything you read

Don't believe everything you read.
If I did, right now I would be convinced that there are countless invisible spiders everywhere, including my mouth. Luckily for me, I don't.
I bring this up because of my horoscope. I believe in horoscopes and palm readings. I don't know why, I just do. Mostly because when I look back at yesterday's horoscopes, it's right. Pretty much all the time. That might just be my brain working what has happened into a form where it fits into what the horoscope has said, but I highly doubt it. Afetr all, I am a naturally skeptical person and so what reason would I have to bend events so that they match my horoscope? (Rhetorical question, by the way.)
My horoscope today stated that I would meet someone nice today. Yeah. In my opinion, that didn't happen. I did have a good chat with the person working at Waterstones but I don't really class that as meeting someone. Maybe my expectations are just high. I thought that I would properly meet someone and perhaps we would grow to be good friends. However, nothing of the sort has happened yet. Perhaps other Leo's out there have encountered a nice person and it has come true for them: oh well, can't have it all.
I'm still waiting to meet that person today; they better hurry up, they've got 6 hours and 38 minutes left (as of now). Mind you, it'd be a bit creep if I met them in my house now...second thoughts, I can wait,

A Promise For Me

I looked out my bedroom window and somehow found inspiration. It's not much and probably not very good but here goes.

A Promise For Me
A square, a mere square
showing a sliver of what is there
The tiniest portion reveals such a lot,
part of the great design, is it not?

The glass dulls it, does not convey it right,
the bodies with wings taking joy in their flight
Brilliant luminescence lighting their way
as they thoughtlessly soar throughout the day

A mere moment is all that I need
to give into the sin that we call Greed
Yet it is not anger or jealousy I show,
but a hungry desire to know what He knows

I am certain that the knowledge would overwhelm me,
destroy and obliterate my power to see
all that I have and all I own,
pushing me from that place I call home

And so, for now, I will continue to sit,
perfectly content until I slip
out of this world and into another,
leaving all safety and leaving all cover

He many do unto me what He has planned
as long as he promises that this land
never fades in beauty and is lit by the crescent
so that I may see the glory that is ever present

That's it, hope you liked it.
Side note: I was watching an anime called Angel Beats! and it was really good. So good, in fact, that I cried at least twice. Especially at the end when Kanade (Angel) left Otonoshi (? Can't really remember his name) and it was so sad. Bless him, he was left all on his own.

My 5 favourite things in my bedroom

Instead of a life lesson today I'm going to a picture blog!
About what, I hear you say? About My 5 Favourite Things in my Bedroom!

   1. My bed - perhaps the item most people overlook. I, however, love sleep; which is strange seeing as I'm a morning person.

2. My headphones and my iPod - I am very loyal to my iPod and won't use anything else until it literally just won't work anymore. I recently got new headphones so now both of them work and the quality is amazing! Oh, what would I do without music?

3. My hair curlers, hairspray (Shockwave) and related items - I love messing about with my hair and my favourite way is to curl it in a Korean style.

          4. My rosary beads - I'm not a devote Catholic but having my rosary beads hung over the side of my bed makes me feel safe and I hold them when I say a prayer at night. Wearing gives me strength and confidence.

                                                      5. My pocket watch - I absolutely love pocket watches! They're just so unique and you don't see anyone wearing them anymore: mine is more like a necklace with the watch attached.

So that's my favourite 5 things in my bedroom. Hope it wasn't too boring :-)

Life lesson #6

Life lesson #6: Drama; if it's not yours, don't get involved in it - we all know how stupid people can be, and how quickly things can escalate. Well...today was one of those days. Luckily not for me, though.
Summed up, this girl bombed her 'friends' off because she thought she was popular. Her mistake. Turns out hardly anyone likes her, and now no one's talking to her. That's all fine and everything; ya know, nothing to do with me *hums nonchalantly*.
But what I don't get is why lots of other people where getting involved. Truth is it has nothing to do with them. Yeah, I might who was actually involved about it but I won't start anything by taking anyone's side. And it annoys me when people take the person who is upset's side when they don't even talk to them.
Stupid, I know. People these days, huh?
On a completely unrelated note, I was thinking that I might starting adding pictures to my blogs - maybe my favourite stuff or something like that.

Life lesson #5

Life Lesson #5: embarrassment is mandatory - this...well, it speaks for itself really. It is something we all experience a ridiculous amount of times; myself certainly beong no exception.
To be honest, I didn't have the best day today. I wasn't sad or anything...I was just stupid.
So where should I start? Oh, I know. First, I was in science. Everything was as it usually was, everyone chatting, etc. But, for some reason, it was quite humid in there. And so, prompted by this, my teacher decided to say..."I'm glad that everyone else feels warm; I thought I was getting hot flushes and might've been getting my menopause." ...Yeah... Now I know what you're thinking: 'Why was that embarrassing for you?' Well, I'll tell you. It could've just been left at that, the boys straight-faced and the girls awkard/wtf. But no, oh no, that would've been far too normal. I, being the person that I am, couldn't help myself from laughing. Loudly. And when I start, I can't stop. The girls on the other table who I thought were laughing as well, were actually laughing at me - not that I really mind. I must've been laughing for a good 5 minutes and after that, I couldn't even look at my teacher without bursting out laughing.
In another lesson, I was drinking Lucozade (as you do: pink lemonade flavour mmm) and, being brilliantly uncoordinated, I managed to spill it all over myself. And not just a little bit either, oh no. Nearly the rest of the pink deliciousness ran over my face and poured down my blazer. What can I say? I'm skilled.
So...yeah. Basically, just laugh at what embarrassing things you do, I usually find it's much better 'cause then you're laughing with people. Right?
Side note: I'm writing this whilst eating Daim pocky (or Mikado for those non-otakus). Mmmm....pocky...

Life lesson #4

Life Lesson #4: don't be afraid to change things - I know this contridicts with one of my previous life lessons that say that should be who you are. However, it still has the same point...kinda. And that point is that you should be happy with yourself; even if that means changing something about yourself.
Now this could be dying your hair, changing your style of clothes, your taste in music, or plastic surgery.
I have brought this up because one of my closest friends wants to change her name. I don't really understand this because I think that her name is unique and suits her well. But, I have no problem with her changing it (I'm helping her try to decide what to change it to) and even if I did, it wouldn't be my place to say anything. It's not that I'm trying to not be hypocritical, it's just that I want her to be happy with herself.
And that goes for everyone else as well, feel free to make any changes to yourself that will make you more confident. I don't really reccommend plastic surgery or anything drastic like that but it's up to you, isn't it?
As for me, I've never thought about changing my name or having plastic surgery because I'm fine with all of that. My name kinda suits me. I do often dye my hair though, and have stripped it because I dyed it black and my hair wouldn't take any other colour. I'm going to attempt to dye it lighter, maybe a honey-brunette type colour, and hope it takes rather than just making my hair darker. Here's hoping, huh?

Monday 12 November 2012

Life lesson #2: your closest friends are there for a reason - recently (and I mean very recently, yesterday in fact) I came out to my two closest friends. It was ridiculously easy and it wasn't nearly as awkward as I thought it would be. Actually, there was no awkwardness at all. It was amazing; today I just felt more at ease with myself now that I really could be myself. I can let myself say 'Hey, that girl's hot' now without anyone giving me strange looks.
I shouldn't have expected any other reaction really. They are my closest friends after all and they said that I'll still be the same to them no matter what gender I like (or both genders in my case).
I know that many of you haven't come out yet and I think you should. But don't feel pressured, do it in your own time. Even writing this is still hard for me; I haven't even told my parents! I don't think that they would mind but it's just saying those words, ya know? Anyway, I suggest that you tell your closest friend that you're gay, lesbian, bi, pansexual, or whatever you are because it just lifts a weight off your shoulders and you can truly be who you are.
Life lesson #3: who cares about anyone else? Be who you want to be - I know that this life lesson sounds cliche but it's true. I realised that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about you if you're happy with yourself. Personally, I love Korean clothes, K pop, manga, cosplay and anything to do with cosplay! I'm proud of what I like and will openly share it with anyone who asks, and you should do the same. If you like bright colours, have bright colours, if you like dressing in black, dress in black! Do whatever you want as long as you love it.

Name + life lesson #1

I really thought that I should say why I called my blog GettingAWordInEdgeways. Yeah, it might be obvious but so what?
I don't know about other teenagers, but I find that I never seem to get heard or listened to. And, apparently, our generation is rising. So, with that, I decided that I should have my say as well; why the hell not? 'Adults' still see us as children, but we're perfectly capable of our own opinions right? Yeah!
I will release some of my adventures as an adolescent, snippets of my conversations with my best friends, and, of course, my opinions on things that matter to me.
So stay tuned (? Not for me? Can you suggest an ending?)
- one of the reasons I'm finishing is because one of my best friends and I are discussing which flavour condoms we would taste. Better get used to this. And in case you wanted to know, I chose strawberry, fruit punch and cherry and Alice chose banana; thank you fanfiction Risque.
Life lesson #1 - laughter is always great:I mentioned this because Alice was telling me the name of a fanfiction that she was reading (before which she proceeded to drop her phone in a spectacular way, making me laugh) and she said "It's called Risk, but, ya know, in the French." At this, I raised my eyebrow and replied "What..Risque?" I thought that was obvious but I know what she's like. By the time she responded "Just..shut up!" I was laughing hysterically. I don't know why I found it so funny but I did; you probably had to be there.

Intro

So this is just my intro: it does what it says on the box, ya know? Basically, I'm gonna try to blog every day with my either my thoughts, what I'm into right now or my treasured life lessons, etc. Hope you're all prepared! :-P
